WASHINGTON (Feb. 24, 2020) — Today the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced more than $1.8 million in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grants to five organizations that will use market-based approaches, including water quality trading, to enhance nonpoint source excess nutrient reduction efforts in the Great Lakes basin. This action supports EPA’s 50th anniversary celebration and its February theme of protecting America’s waters.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin visits NEW Water

NEW Water hosted U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin in September to learn more about cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae. As part of the visit, a panel discussion was held with leaders from NEW Water and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, followed by a brief tour of the lower Bay of Green Bay.

Congratulations, 2019 STEM Superheroes!

Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay teams up with NEW Water to address an identified community need

From building their own sewers to inspecting microorganisms under a microscope, area youth have earned their “Defenders of the Bay” certificate from completing a STEM Superheroes Summer Camp.

Girl Scouts

NEW Water and UW-Green Bay have joined forces since 2016 to help Girl Scouts from around Wisconsin earn their “Wonders of Water” badges. 

Activities include learning about the infamous water bear microorganism and watching them swim under microscopes; learning about cleaning water by making water filters; learning about aquatic life in “Who’s in your stream?” simulating runoff in a community through an Enviroscape activity; and creating bracelets representative of the water cycle.
