ERLS 4_webEast River Lift Station Improvements Project

NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District, is a regional clean water utility that provides wholesale services to 15 municipalities and their 239,000 residential and business customers. NEW Water owns and operates two treatment facilities, 78 miles of interceptors, 600 pumps, 1,206 manholes, and cleaned about 15 billion gallons of water for the community last year. NEW Water works around the clock so that our community can do dishes, wash laundry, flush the toilet, and run their businesses whenever they want.

Project Background and Need

The East River Lift Station (ERLS) is part of NEW Water's sanitary sewer collection system. It serves an area east of the Fox River, including portions of the City of De Pere, Town of Ledgeview, and Village of Bellevue. The pump station was originally constructed in 1998 with three pumps and one force main. In 2005, a second force main was connected. The force mains are owned, operated, and maintained by NEW Water.

This project is needed to accommodate current and future flows, and to allow for future growth and development in the NEW Water service area.

ERLS 5_webProject Improvements and Cost

Improvements to the ERLS include replacing the existing pumps, adding an additional pump, and replacing interior piping to enhance maintainability and reliability. Backup emergency power and other flood protection measures will be incorporated to increase system reliability. A third force main will be constructed to provide more flow capacity (see the included map).

The expected cost of these sanitary sewer improvements is around $11 million, which is funded through NEW Water’s rates to 15 municipal customers.

Expected Impacts and Schedule

The force main will be constructed in the street or in the public right-of-way, which is the grass terrace right behind the curb. Traffic will be impacted, and driveway access restrictions will occur during construction. Any grass or pavement disturbed during construction will be repaired.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2026 and expected to be completed in late 2027.

Thank you for your patience and support while we work to ensure continued reliability of wastewater services for your neighborhood, and our community.
