NEW Water’s “effluent,” or water we discharge into the Fox River, is generally cleaner than the receiving water. We collect and treat an average of 41 million gallons a day from our two facilities. NEW Water is proud to be permit compliant for 18 years in a row. This sample of our effluent is from September 5.

Summer was not quite over yet when this sample was taken of the Fox River on September 5! Cyanobacteria, or blue green algae, can still bloom this time of year, causing the water to look green, especially on calm days. Cyanobacteria can be harmful to humans and animals from contact or consumption. Whenever you are planning any recreation near or on the water, be aware, and “When in doubt, stay out!”

STEAM Superheroes Camp

The partnership continues to help area youth protect our waters and become "Defenders of the Bay!"


It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s the STEAM Superheroes! NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District, teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay (BGCGB) for an interactive 2021 Virtual STEAM Superheroes Camp, making this year the 6th year of educating, engaging, and inspiring area youth to care about our water. There was 31 area youth that became ‘Defenders of the Bay,’ learning important skills to help protect our precious water resources right here in Green Bay from the STEAM Superheroes “Commander CleanWater” and “Watershed Warrior.”

Traveling exhibit brings plastic pollution awareness to Northeast Wisconsin

This summer, NEW Water is helping to promote an exciting exhibit which aligns with our vision: Protecting our most valuable resource, water.

Discover the connections between plastic waste and the wellbeing of marine life with Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, a traveling exhibit coming to the Green Bay Botanical Garden that features eight larger-than-life sculptures of animals made from trash and debris washed up from bodies of water.
