NEW Water News

NEW Water owns and operates many miles of underground pipes, including a series of larger, deeper pipes called an interceptor system, located throughout our service area. In downtown Green Bay, portions of this system have been in operation since the 1930s, and are in need of improvements in order to continue to function. These improvements are needed to revitalize aging infrastructure to protect public health and the environment. A Public Information Meeting (PIM) has been scheduled regarding the Downtown Interceptor Renewal Project, for 6:00 p.m. on December 4 at the Brown County Public Library, Central Branch.

October 2023 - Spectrum News featured our partnership with UWGB’s Student Monitoring Program, to help educate area youth about the importance of work in the watershed, to protect our most valuable resource, water.

NEW Water update meeting

NEW Water held a Municipal & Industrial partner update meeting on October 18, 2023 with topics including dye testing, Strategic Plan, Facility Plan, 2024 budget, Adaptive Management, Downtown Interceptor Renewal Project, and Public Service Announcements.

NEW Water’s response to COVID-19

NEW Water continues to participate in a wastewater study (scroll down this page to learn more). Check out this video to see sample collection at our facility. 

Congratulations to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) for receiving the CTIA Wireless Foundation Climate Changemaker Award.

This initiative allows UWGB to build their network of buoys in area waters, joining other partners who share their data with the Great Lakes Observatory System (GLOS). Currently, three entities have buoys in the Bay of Green Bay: UWGB, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as well as NEW Water, which has two buoys as part of its Aquatic Monitoring Program, which helps inform permit compliance.

July 19, 2023 - NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District, has received a $1,000 award from the Sustain the Bay Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region. This award will be used to print and install a large, full-color sign on the Soil Health Education and Demonstration (SHED) facility that is located on 30 acres of Oneida Nation tribal lands in the Town of Oneida in Outagamie County.

On September 1, 2023, Congressman Mike Gallagher (8^th District) honored NEW Water Executive Director Tom Sigmund with a Congressional Record Presentation.
