 World Water Day was March 22, and Earth Day is around the corner!  Looking for ways to love the earth, and to help protect our waterways?  Joining a Fox River cleanup and building a rain garden are two examples of what you can do.

NEW Water once again teamed up with the Green Bay Water Utility for a World Water Day celebration, and this year awarded Green Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Director Mike Reed with the NEW Watershed Champion Award.  The celebration included singing kindergartners!

NEW Water has lauded numerous local industries with Silver and Gold Awards for achieving 100% wastewater permit compliance, and for helping to prevent pollution from our waterways!

 

 


R2E2 projectUpdate on R2E2 and More

NEW Water held a quarterly "What's New at NEW Water" update on March 5th, which included an update on the new solids handling facility, Resource Recovery and Electrical Energy (R2E2).

 

 

Grants Awarded for Silver Creek Project

To meet new phosphorus regulations, NEW Water has embarked on Adaptive Management as a more cost effective means to achieving environmental permit compliance.  NEW Water's pilot project in Silver Creek has been awarded $1.6 million from the Environmental Protection Agency, and $240,000 from Ducks Unlimited and the Fox River Natural Resources Trustee Council

 

 

Cost Savings, Public Tours, and a Nod

  • Sustainability in action. In 2014, NEW Water not only met its permit requirements for discharge of pollutants to the environment, but fared far better.  As a result, NEW Water was able to save customers $545,000 in the avoided NR101 fee paid to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

  • National recognition. The National Association of Clean Water Agencies has awarded NEW Water with the Public Information & Education Award for the World Water Day event held in 2014 in conjunction with the Green Bay Water Utility.
