NEW Water has won a “Business Friends of Education” award, the only clean water utility in the State of Wisconsin to be bestowed this honor. The Green Bay Area Public School District nominated NEW Water, applauding its Youth Apprenticeship Program and educational outreach.

NEW Water Executive Director Tom Sigmund was presented with the President’s Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) in April.



 

Certificate of AchievementIndustrial Award winners announced

NEW Water congratulates all businesses that were in compliance with wastewater discharge standards for 2012! Under State Statutes, NEW Water issues permits to Significant Industrial Users for environmental regulation compliance.

Construction is expected to begin in late spring of 2014 with relocation of the primary electrical feed substation and medium voltage underground electrical cables. After that work is completed, construction of the remaining facilities will begin in late 2014, with completion in early 2018.

 

 

Great Lakes from Space High ResEPA names NEW Water's Bill Hafs to board

NEW Water’s Director of Environmental Programs, Bill Hafs, has been named a member of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Great Lakes Advisory Board.

 

 

Dan Alesch Dedication

A nod to a career in public service

After serving on the Commission for 25 years, Professor Daniel J. Alesch retired in December. In gratitude for his dedicated service, NEW Water has named its Training Center after him.

 

 

Wisconsin water conservationists hosted

NEW Water held a workshop in April as part of the 2013 Wisconsin Lakes Partnership Convention, which was attended by nature conservationists from across the state, and arranged by the University of Wisconsin-Extension.

 

R2E2 project

R2E2 design underway

The Resource Recovery and Electrical Energy (R2E2) project continues along in its design phase; the R2E2 Stakeholder Committee met on May 14 to get an update, and will reconvene in September.

 


 

In brief: 

  • Wisconsin State Representative John Klenke toured NEW Water in April, stating that he was impressed with what he saw in the 365-24-7 award-winning operation. NEW Water has reached out to legislators in efforts to restore the Clean Water Fund, which provides below-market loans to clean water utilities.
  • Rate Methodology. An ongoing rate methodology study is nearing completion. Two public informational meetings were held in March, and a special Commission workshop was held in April. The Commission is expected to vote on the issue at the May 29 meeting
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) Upgrade. Construction on the Laboratory HVAC renovation, as well as the addition of two new wheelchair-accessible bathrooms at NEW Water's Green Bay Facility, was completed in March.
  • "Fix-a-Leak Week". As partners of the Environmental Protection Agency's "Water Sense" program, NEW Water helped promote the importance of fixing leaky toilets and sinks in mid-March by having a demonstration for students at Green Bay's Aldo Leopold School.
