Wastewater Treatment Billing

GBMSD does not bill industries directly. We are a wholesaler of wastewater treatment services and bill municipalities for service.

For example, the City of Green Bay is billed for the amount of flow and strength of the wastewater coming from that community. Metering stations throughout our service area monitor and record the flow and makeup of the water from each community.

The billable parameters that determine the strength of wastewater are:

  • BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand)
  • Suspended Solids
  • Phosphorus
  • Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen

These parameters are analyzed in our State-certified laboratory. These components, combined with the volume of wastewater received from each community, determine how much the community will be charged.

Sewer rates charged to residents by the individual municipalities vary. Each community owns and maintains its own sewer pipes, and they each have costs associated with that maintenance.

Our wholesale rates are based on 1,000 gallons of domestic strength wastewater treated as shown in the graph.
